What Makes Jewellery Truly Waterproof?
True waterproof jewellery has two things: a base metal that does not corrode, and a surface coating that holds up to water, salt, chlorine, and sweat. Most standard gold-plated jewellery fails the second test - the thin plating wears off with repeated water exposure, leaving the base metal exposed.

What About PVD-Coated Jewellery?
PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coating is what separates good stainless steel jewellery from great stainless steel jewellery. Standard gold plating bonds a thin layer of gold on top of a base metal - and that layer lifts, chips, and fades with water exposure. PVD bonds at a molecular level, making the colour finish part of the metal itself rather than sitting on top of it.
